The School of Business and Public Policy’s debate team in the University of Papua New Guinea have flown to New Zealand on Friday, 21st October 2023.
Team SBPP have won the trip to New Zealand in August following their victory in the 2023 UPNG Student Representative Council Debate Competition.
The UPNG SRC Debate commenced early in semester 2 of 2023 to promote Debate, public speaking, research skills and other skillful attributes that students from the University need.
The former UPNG SRC President and current Regional Representative of the Commonwealth Student Association, Mr Bradley Yombon-Copio says that he is thankful for all the support given by both the University of Auckland and the Commonwealth Student Association in driving this initiative forward.
“University of Auckland has been amazing in their willingness to partner and Support UPNG and I hope that this Engagement will be the start of a long lasting Partnership,” says Mr. Yombon-Copio.
Team SBPP participants will have a range of activities during their one week stay in Auckland from October 23rd to the 29th.
According to the Commonwealth Students' Associtaion, the aims of the activities that the delegates are engaged in during the week-long stay are as follows:
- Engagement with University of PNG with University of Auckland and Auckland University of Technology.
- Avenue to share knowledge and Resources if long term partnership is established.
- Strengthen Relationship between CSA, UPNG SRC and NZ National Union of Students.
- Increase Regional Partnership of Student Associations.
- Possibility of Discussing cross collaboration between Universities in the Pacific Region.
- International exposure and learning experience for Students from University of PNG.
The entire UPNG community wishes tam SBPP the best of luck and success as they are set to embark on this exciting journey in Auckland, New Zealand.
